Roku Streaming Subscription Bundles Launch, Save Up to 30%

Roku began selling subscription bundles through Premium Subscriptions on Sept. 17, letting US and Mexico account holders combine two participating streaming services under one Roku subscription. Roku says the bundles can save subscribers up to 30% compared with buying the services separately.

This is the first time Roku has offered bundles through Premium Subscriptions. In the US, the launch covers 32 pairings involving services such as HBO Max, AMC+, FOX One, Hallmark+, Howdy and STARZ. Mexico has a separate two-bundle lineup.

The bundles are available through Roku's Subscriptions Destination, Streaming Store and Premium Subscriptions Home, as well as online. According to Roku's announcement, customers can sign up using their existing Roku account without creating another login for each service.

What Roku streaming subscription bundles are available now?

Roku's official launch page lists 32 US bundles across five categories.

Roku separately lists two bundles for Mexico:

The lineup consists of prebuilt two-service pairings. Roku does not currently document a tool for freely combining any two Premium Subscriptions into a custom bundle.

Roku's own $3-per-month Howdy service appears in three US pairings: Howdy + A&E Crime Central, Howdy + Hallmark+, and UP Faith & Family + Howdy.

How much you'll actually save

Roku says its bundles offer savings of up to 30% compared with subscribing to the included services separately. The company does not publish a bundle-by-bundle savings percentage in its announcement, so 30% should be treated as the maximum rather than the discount every pairing receives.

The best comparison is the price Roku shows for the bundle against what you currently pay for the same two services.

That becomes especially important if you already have an annual plan, promotional price or subscription billed outside Roku. Roku says annual plans are available for select standalone Premium Subscriptions but are not included with bundles.

Premium Subscriptions bought through Roku also automatically renew until canceled and are generally nonrefundable. Free trials are available for select services, according to Roku's terms.

Signing up and switching from a standalone plan

Bundles use the same Roku account and billing system as other Premium Subscriptions. Customers can subscribe from a Roku device or through The Roku Channel website.

If you already pay for an eligible Premium Subscription through Roku, you may be able to switch directly to a bundle containing that service without paying for both.

Roku's support documentation confirms that when a customer switches from an individual subscription to an available bundle, Roku automatically cancels the standalone subscription and replaces it with the bundle. Roku shows a notice explaining the change before the customer confirms it.

That automatic conversion applies to subscriptions billed through Roku. If you subscribe to one of the services directly or through another provider, it will not automatically become part of the Roku bundle, so check where the existing subscription is billed before signing up.

Customers can also switch from a bundle back to an eligible standalone subscription. Roku says a downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

What Roku bundles are available in Mexico?

Roku confirmed that Premium Subscription bundles launched in both the US and Mexico, but the catalogs are different.

The company's official bundle page currently lists Filmelier+ + Adrenalina Pura+ and Looke + Booh! for Mexico.

The larger 32-pairing catalog applies to the US. That means US combinations involving STARZ, AMC+, FOX One and other services should not be assumed to be available to Roku customers in Mexico.

Customers should check their local Roku storefront for current pricing and availability because the bundle collection can change.

Also announced: Roku Labs

Roku announced its bundle launch as part of a wider platform update that also introduced Roku Labs, a program for testing experimental Roku features.

Roku says Labs will be available soon in the US, rather than describing it as already generally available.

Four features remain in testing through the program: Roku Stocks, Roku Weather, Backdrops Studio and Roku Immerse. Roku City Dash, a game originally developed through Labs, has already graduated from the program and is available more broadly.

For subscribers interested primarily in the new bundles, the key step is simpler: check Roku's live Premium Subscriptions storefront and compare the bundle price with the amount currently being paid for both services. The advertised savings can reach 30%, but the actual discount depends on the pairing and the subscriber's existing plans.
